Kordes & Kordes Film GmbH was founded in Berlin in 2003 and since then has made short films and documentaries as well as cinema and television productions. The company is jointly managed by sisters Meike and Alexandra Kordes, who won the VGF Young Producers Award at the Bavarian Film Awards in 2007.
The young company has made a name for itself in Germany and beyond in a very short time by producing ambitious Arthouse films. FOUR MINUTES, the winner of the Deutscher Filmpreis 2007, has been sold to more than 40 territories, and is one of the most award-winning festival hits of the last year. The drama has already reached over 500,000 viewers in German cinemas.
The company has also produced ambitious and successful television movies including SIEHST DU MICH? directed by Katinka Feistl, which was nominated for the First Steps Award 2005 in the category Best Television Feature Film. In its first broadcast in July 2007, the film SIEH ZU, DASS DU LAND GEWINNST by Kerstin Ahlrichs, received the highest viewer ratings for 2007 in the “Emotions“ series of ZDF’s Das kleine Fernsehspiel.
Kordes and Kordes have also produced the exciting documentaries SUCHE NACH SCHWERELOSIGKEIT (Director: Carsten Fiebeler, 2005) - a portrait of the ballet dancer Vladimir Malkhov - and the film about the Jewish Community in Berlin JEWISH BALLROOM (Directors: Arielle Artsztein, Esther Slevogt, 2005).
On the international level, Kordes & Kordes Film GmbH is working at the moment with the American producer Dean Silvers on the film of Isabel Allende`s bestseller EVA LUNA. The company is also working on LIFE AFTER LIFE together with Silvers, which is already in the financing stage.
The film DAS FALSCHE LEBEN (THE WRONG LIFE) is among the projects currently in development. This film is based on the bestseller of the same name by Ute Scheubs. The script will be written by Petra Lüschow, and the film directed by Andreas Veiel. Chris Kraus’ new film POLL is also in development, along with three feature-length television movies and various debut projects.
Kordes & Kordes Film is currently working on the television production Und morgen räum´ ich auf... (I’LL CLEAR UP TOMORROW) from Writer-Director Martina Elbert, in conjunction with the Bayerischer Rundfunk (Bavarian Television Broadcasting Service).
Kordes & Kordes Film also has offices in the German states of North Rhine-Westphalia, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg since 2005.
